Turn Point Design specializes in 3d CAD design of tools, molds, composite parts, boat kits, and molds.  With our 20+ years in fabrication, we design parts that don’t just look good on the screen, but are also efficient to fabricate.  Our CAD software of choice is Rhino 3d which is extremely affective at designing parts ready to be cut by our CNC machines.

CAD Design for most any project.  Many customers will bring us an existing CAD model of the part they want machined exactly as designed.  3D CAD makes the communication process more efficient and less prone to errors. For these projects the 3D CAD file is the “blueprint” we machine from and can be used in the part verification process.  For other projects we are presented a rough picture of what the finished product should look like.  In these cases we can work up 3D models of the part which act as stepping stones to reach the final design.  Once the design is signed off on by the customer, we can proceed to CNC machining and fabrication.

Kit Design- Turn Point Design is uniquely qualified to design and prototype boat kits.  Our skills in CAD, small boat construction, CNC machining, materials science, and on the water experience helps shape efficient boat kits.  The customer can really tell the difference in how the boat performs on the water.  But the builder will be equally impressed by how easily the kits go together.  Minimizing build complexity and part count are very important in creating a great boat kit.  This ties in with an often overlooked aspect of small kit boat design– minimizing boat weight.  A small lightweight boat is always going to perform better than a heavier boat.  But arguably more important is how much easier the lightweight boat is to handle.  A boat that is easy to pull up the beach, put in the back of the truck, or ontop of the roof racks will be a pleasure to use everyday.
